MIT Kerberos ID, Athena Account, Web Certificates
As a member of the MIT community, you have access to a wide range of computer-based facilities and tools that will help you to get your work done. To take advantage of many of these electronic resources, you first need to establish an official identity that will allow you to pass through MIT’s online security systems. Through this site, you can sign up for a Kerberos/Athena account and get a personalized certificate on the computer you are using to ensure secure accessibility to otherwise protected sites like the Employee Self Service (ESS).
If you need to have an MIT Kerberos ID in order to use the MIT computer-based facilities and tools prior to your arrival at MIT, (i.e. to utilize MIT online resources such as housing, etc.), please send a request to the ChemE HR Administrator, Bori Stoyanova (bori@mit.edu) with your name, date of birth, and current email address. An MIT ID will be generated for you to allow you to establish your MIT Electronic Credentials (Kerberos ID=MIT email). The same MIT ID number will be used for your forthcoming appointment at MIT.
Identification Card (MIT ID)
Soon after your arrival, you should go to the MIT ID Card Atlas Service Center (located on the first floor of E17, 40 Ames Street entrance), to obtain your MIT ID card and, in most cases, verify work eligibility in the United States. Please bring a government-issued picture ID (i.e. passport) and your original visa sponsorships document (if relevant). Prior to that, you should have received an email from welcome-center@mit.edu letting you know that you are in the system and are able to get your card. You should have also received an invitation for a one-hour onboarding meeting with a member of the ChemE Human Resources team.
