On Monday, September 18, 2023, the MIT Department of Chemical Engineering, and the MIT Energy Initiative held a symposium to celebrate Robert C. Armstrong’s fifty years of energy, education, and excellence at MIT, as he retired as director of the MIT Energy Initiative (MITEI) and Chevron Professor of Chemical Engineering.

The symposium included presentations and discussions on Professor Armstrong’s many contributions to the fields of chemical engineering and energy, and on the future of these fields. The day-long event was a reunion of former and current students, post-docs, academic and industrial friends, and colleagues. There was also a celebratory dinner at the Prudential Center that included Bob’s family.
