We are excited to announce our first annual Holiday Card Design Competition!
This is an opportunity for you to showcase your creativity and scientific passion in a way that spreads holiday cheer throughout the Department and beyond. The winning card will be featured as the Department’s official holiday card, sent to hundreds of alumni, donors, and friends of the Department. It will also be featured on the front of the MIT ChemE website.
Competition Details
Eligibility:
- All students, staff and postdocs of the Department
- You may enter as a team, but only one submission per individual (i.e. if you submit as part of a team, you may not also submit as an individual)
Theme:
- Designs should capture the festive holiday spirit while incorporating elements of life in the Department, your scientific research, and/or chemical engineering
- An inclusive “holiday” or “winter” theme is encouraged
Format (two options):
- Digital, or hand-drawn designs are welcome. We encourage landscape images of 5×7 as that would fit well on the front of the card. Please ensure digital submissions are in JPEG, PNG, or PDF format with a resolution of 300 DPI.
- Alternatively, you can create a “Folded Card (Landscape)” on canva.com and submit that as a design, as this is the format we will use to create the final card
Notes on Content:
- AI Disclosure: If you’ve used any AI tools in creating your design, please disclose this in your submission and explain how AI was utilized
Judging Criteria:
- Creativity and originality
- Adherence to the theme
- Visual appeal and design quality
- Relevance to Course X/chemical engineering

Fine print:
- The card designs will be judged anonymously by a panel of faculty and staff
- The winner will be announced the week of November 4, 2024
- Usage Rights: the Department has the right to use the winning design for the holiday card, as well as social media and potentially other materials
- The winner(s) will receive Tech Cash and their own set of cards to use as they wish
