Chemical Engineering has been highly supportive of educating our students about ethics, how to think about ethics, and the ethical implications of their work. I am grateful to be a part of that process.
Teaching ethics is different than teaching technical material since of course students already have opinions about ethics, morality, and more broadly one should live. However, those opinions are sometimes confused, contradictory, or even unselfconscious. I particularly enjoy the moments when students articulate and question beliefs they formerly took for granted.
