The BE & ChemE Career Expo is a unique forum for industry professionals to network with the next generation of chemical and biological engineers. Hosted by the MIT Department of Biological Engineering and Department of Chemical Engineering, the program features two forums, opening with a company showcase where students engage directly with industry, and culminating in a candidate poster session where trainees pitch their skills.

Companies: Reserve Your Spot

We welcome all companies that employ chemical and/or biological engineers. Past companies included a range of startups and multinational corporations in energy, biotech, pharma, chemicals, manufacturing, patent law, consumer products, technical consulting, and more. Their representatives included technical specialists, senior managers, recruiters, and others. Companies do not need job openings to network with our communities. You can share your career insights or noteworthy projects in addition to jobs/internships.

All registrations will be reviewed by the organizers before acceptance.

Costs

To offset some of the costs associated with this program we have a flat fee per company. Companies can invite up to four representatives.

Priority registration rates available through September 20:
• For-profit company: $175
• Non-profit organization: $60

Late registration rate after September 20:
• All companies: $250

Please note that there is a no-refund policy for canceled registrations.

Company registration includes a table, chairs, table linens, an electrical outlet, parking, and lunch. Table literature can be shipped in advance.

Students: Register and Present

Student registration will open on September 2 on Handshake to attend the company showcase. All MIT students and postdocs are welcome to attend the company showcase. The BE and ChemE Communication Labs will be advertising opportunities to present at the poster session directly to their communities.

The ChemE Communication Lab will be hosting a Career Bootcamp in 66-201 on Tuesday, September 15 from 4:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. in 66-201 to help our community prepare their resumes, online presence, and elevator pitches for the fall. A photographer will be available to take headshot for those who register for a slot.

FAQs

Who is this event for?
We are looking for industry contacts who can satisfy student curiosity about how their training in chemical engineering or biological engineering could look in the field. You might be a hiring manager, a practicing engineer, or perhaps an alum. Our students and postdocs enjoy asking both technical and big picture questions about different industries.

Trainee attendees will include anyone from a first-year undergraduate to a postdoc. While this event is sponsored by the BE and ChemE departments, students in other programs are also welcome.

How is this expo different from a career fair?
The focus of this program is networking. Attendance is not limited to recruiters or current job seekers. Companies do not need openings to represent their organization. We encourage industry guests to share their career journey. What soft skills are essential and how is your work informed by your engineering degree? Trainees will also have a platform for networking at our poster forum. Our goal is for the BE and ChemE trainees to leave with a broader sense of the career potential of their engineering education, and for industry to forge meaningful connections with our communities.

You can post job opportunities in our Handshake platform. We can also provide private rooms for interviews.

What is the registration fee?

For profit companies will be charged a rate of $175 through September 20 while non-profits have a discounted rate of $60. All organizations will be charged $250 after our priority registration deadline on September 20.

Alumni are welcome to network with students and postdocs at our poster forum from 4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. free of charge.
